Jeepers Creepers (2001)
I saw for the 1000 time Jeepers Creepers. I like it so much, even if it has it`s bad parts, but let`s think of this movie as being a stepping stone in the horror cinematography.
And I say a stepping stone just because it combines a small cast, a monster as we have never seen in other horror flicks and a story behind it (we found the meaning in the second part).
It has indeed young people in it, but it`s so much different from the other young people in different horror flicks. Not the same can be said about Jeepers Creepers 2.
Now, Jeepers Creepers starts by presenting us a brother and a sister (Darry and Trisha) going home for spring break on a route that has a history of death. The route is chosen by the sister because, as she said, she believes that this is going to be the road where she will die. Irony of the fate is that she will not die in the end. On this road they meet the creeper in a circumstance that will get the willies to anyone who drives long deserted roads: the creepers drives an old brown truck honking the horn behind them scaring them. The second time they meet the creeper, is when they pass a deserted church where the monster throws down a pipe something “wrapped and roped in a sheet with red stains on it”. That`s when they kind of freak out, and on a leaking stop they decide to go back and see if someone needs any help.
That`s when Darry ends up seeing where the creeper keeps his stash of bodies. Now here comes the fun part. They get to a gas station where they receive a call from a clairvoyant telling them to run as fast as they can when they hear the radio playing “Jeepers Creepers”. At the gas station they meet the creeper for the third time. They meet is kind of improperly said, because they actually don`t see him, only hear from the people at the local that there was somebody sniffing their clothes. They call the police to come to their aid. When they come, Darry and Trisha tell them exactly what they saw, the police doesn’t believe them, and now they have to go back to the church so that the police gets straight the story. On the road, the police men are eaten by the creeper, and that`s when Darry and Trisha run, get to a farm filled with cats. There the creeper scares them and faces them in his natural “layer”. That’s when Trisha, driven by courage, runs him over. But as we all can assume, that will not stop the creeper at all. And it doesn’t. So Darry and Trisha end up at the police, where they meet face to face with the clairvoyant. That’s when she tells them that she saw in a dream in an old abandoned place, with Jeepers Creepers playing on an old phonograph with one of the brothers crying for help. And here, the creepers shows, kills a person in jail and an officer and hunt the brothers down. Darry and Trisha end up in a surveillance room with no way out, when the creeper comes in and takes Darry away under his sisters eyes.
The movie end in the next morning, where the clairvoyant asks for forgiveness from Trisha and she goes outside watching a crow pass by. The same crow that ends up sitting outside an old abandoned place, where the vision of the clairvoyant comes true. The flick shows at the end Darry`s body, and only his face, with no eyes, making sure that the close-up can leave us in suspense until the creepers face comes in the back giving us a glimpse through Darry`s head leaving the last part to be an exquisite part – that is Darry`s eyes in the creepers head.
The movie itself has a nice storyline, a great act and a great monster.
This is why Jeepers Creepers, in my list, is in top 10 horror flicks.
